Piano and Music Lessons with Jo Alice Brasswell

In our lessons, we will get a visual and rhythmic understanding of music, with music theory and a practical playing method. I share the philosophy that music is a FUN discipline, and it is fun for both the student, the parents and the piano teacher.

Music theory was once used as a tool in teaching math ( in Ancient Egypt). Today it is a practical tool for learning math, history and science, and other musical instruments including the voice. There have been many successful studies done that have proven this.

In our lessons we will approach simple and familiar pieces by Beethoven, Bach and Mozart. I also encourage those who show creativity to memorize compositions they have made up, so that I may write them down on music notation paper. I will take any pieces the students want to learn themselves (providing they bring in their own sheet music and/or tapes, CDs of the songs) and we will approach learning by reading as well as playing by ear.

My qualifications as a piano teacher for beginners are that I have taught music for over ten years, and have taught children a method of piano at Piano Play in Sherman Oaks. I have recorded and published over 12 albums, CDs with various artists, have 3 solo projects published and continue to work and perform and record as a professional musician with various groups in the Musicians Union Local 47.

I owe a lot to my mentor and musical guru Mike Garson . . .
